Yes, five stars, but only for the fantastic ledger art. Of the seven essays, two were pretty good, the rest were just too scholarly which made them boring. Some of it was painful but I pushed myself. However, pages 45-188 contain numerous examples of fascinating ledger art, so I'm going to recommend it.

Though his name was very familiar to me, I hadn't known much at all about Andrew Breitbart until I listened to this book. I probably avoided him because I thought he would be just another Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Sarah Palin, etc., willing to say anything to get noticed by conservatives. He wasn't. Breitbart was a keen observer, and as I listened I found myself constantly agreeing with his conclusions, especially with regard to Hollywood and the left. it was interesting to see him study the tactics of Saul Alinsky and use them against leftists who attacked him. I wish he were still alive so I could see his commentary on the election and all that has followed. Republican leadership is selling out those who voted them in, and I would love to hear what he would say.

I enjoyed learning about Andrew Breitbart's upbringing, critical life decisions, and transformations. Also, I was not aware that he was so involved in starting up the Huffington Post. Soon after moving on to build his big government Breitbart news network. The exciting part of the book was how James O’Keefe and Andrew took down Acorn and significantly exposed the big news networks of their liberal bias. He (RIP) and others started a movement, and I feel he would want us to continue the expansion efforts of the citizen journalist movement.

Andrews was an important figure for the modern independent media that we see today.Important not only for americans but to democracy, he inspires not only conservatives but everyone who apreciates freedom of speach.I just love the guy!

I've known for years about this book, but for some reason I never read it - Probably because I lumped Breitbart in with the Tea Party, to which he was closely associated. I lean conservative naturally, but I'm turned off by extremism - which I view the Tea Party as being. I even found the subtitle a bit egotistical, if I'm being honest.That all changed recently when I was looking for a book on the liberal media and the methods liberals use to tear everyone who's not with them down. Years ago I'd read Juan Williams's Muzzled - the Assault on Honest Debate. He framed a good argument after being victimized by the liberal machine, but there was virtually nothing in the way of execution. D'Souza never quite met the need - he focused more on Obama's motivations. There were a couple on my list regarding spin and media bias, but both were expensive. That's when I read the description for this book.Long story short - this was the book I've been looking for. Part biography, part history, part story, and part strategy, Righteous Indignation really nails the tactics used by what Breitbart terms the DMC - Democratic Media Complex. Rooted in Alinskyan Rules for Radicals strategy, the DMC doesn't attempt to push back on facts, it seeks to immediately attack the veracity and integrity of whomever is providing information it doesn't like without being concerned about such pesky things such as truth or integrity itself. Example after example, Breitbart demonstrates how he learned not only what was happening, but how to fight back. While certainly no angel, there's no denying that Breitbart knows and describes how to fight back while maintaining integrity.As always, your political leanings will determine how you feel about Breitbart and the book. But as someone upon whom Michael Moore's Farenheit 911 had the exact opposite of the intended effect - I enjoyed this book thoroughly and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't believe there's bias in the media.

Andrew changed journalism forever. Perhaps more than anyone else, he pursued journalism the way it is supposed to be. Question everything, follow through, damn the politics and political correctness. His story is very compelling. You don't have to agree with him to appreciate how he elevated investigative journalism

This was an absolutely incredible book that made you feel as if you were sitting with Andrew and discussing life events. He has been a long standing hero of mine, but from a distance. I feel as if I've visited the heart of one of the truest patriots that ever lived. I also bought the audio version, which was an incredible experience to close your eyes and listen to his story. I don't think we fully appreciate what Andrew gave this country, but he will definitely be part of history. I thank him for his service to America. Refreshing, honest, truthful. Righteous Indignation more relevant today than when Andrew Breitbart wrote it. Mr. Breitbart was a true American willing to fight for everyday Americans. He is an American hero. His subtitle for this book is not hyperbole.I would recommend this book to everyone who feels caught in the crossfire of the culture of our time. Mr. Breitbart's enthusiasm and courage in standing up for principle and against those who would destroy all that is good in America is contagious.I gave this book 5 stars because it was highly readable, relevant and exciting page turner. I stopped 20 times to google various names and topics to get the historical references. I came away from this book better informed and engaged in the news swirling around me. Read this book!

I was aware of AB prior to reading book, didn't know of his upbringing or back story though. So many former liberals out there espousing conservatives views these days. I voted for Carter. Yes, only because he was from the South. Yes, I was an idiot, a former southern born and bred, Democrat. Only follow up I would like to see is investigation into how he died. Not long after bringing down Weiner did he pass. Weiner was tied to Clintons (Huma, wife) and Clintons have more than a few questionable deaths on their resume. Really good book, good background info on media, Democrats, Hollywood.

I plan to do science experiments with my nephews, ages 6-10 this winter instead of buying them Christmas junk. This was one of the books I bought to go along with the bacteria growing supplies and the black lights... gross for sure. The other books were, well, just ok. This book... the graphics, the way that it explains about bacteria, viruses, and fungi, it was impressive. It was not dumbed down but it was very understandable, even for a younger learner. I'm impressed with how entertaining and educational this book is. Well done!

This book is the perfect introduction to microbiology for my 3rd grader. Not dumbed-down, yet age appropriate. Perfect balance of pictures to text for a clear introduction. The pictures and graphics are great. I'm very pleased.

I bought this book in the Fall of 2017 for my business law clinic course. Was truly an easy read and a year later now preparing to practice as an attorney it is still very helpful in understanding how to be an effective lawyer vis à vis potential and existing clients.As a student it helped with learning proper interview and communication skills. It also discusses what I believe is currently a very relevant topic in the legal profession by reminding us to empathize with each client and not allow our implicit bias to affect our ability to provide effective counsel.I would recommend this book to students interested in understanding transactional law and all practicing lawyers as a quick refresher.

All of the career highlights and lowlights are here his idolization of Borg, his seminal matches with Connors and at Davis Cup, his clashes with the British press at Wimbledon, his romantic perambulations. But while appealingly self-aware ("For me, the relief of not losing has always been just as strong as, if not stronger than, the joy of winning") and consistently honorable, the effort feels a little dull. McEnroe's sincere pronouncements lack the cojones that might have made the book entertaining, and yet for all his openness, he engages in too much self-justification to seem truly vulnerable or poignant. The book grew out of a profile Kaplan wrote for the New Yorker two summers ago. That piece managed to present McEnroe as affable without diluting what is essentially brash and true about the star, and one wishes a little more of that boldness would have crept in here. For McEnroe, the persona hinted at in public remains more interesting and complicated than the person he gives us in this book. Now, he and journalist Kaplan take a candid look back at this colorful career. Smashing racquets and screaming tirades against linesmen and umpires only cemented McEnroe's role as the explosive bad boy of tennis. Yet the Hall of Famer shows surprising insight here. He explores why matches were constant battles against "the other guy and myself," admitting that the relief of not failing was at least as strong as the joy of winning. Being a competitive tennis player in the 80’s, I really loved watching John McEnroe, and even more then not; found myself cheering him on. This was entertaining, and I enjoyed the “behind the scenes” views Johnny Mac shared. It seems to me Mr McEnroe wanted to set the record straight about how he choose to live his life, apologizing for his behavior, leaving the Davis Cup, and such, but honestly, his choices were his, we all make mistakes (wish we acted differently) but it’s all just another tough match of life. Impossible to change the results, but I’ve we learn and improve from it, we’ve raised our game to the next level.

Very honest. Pretty interesting although I got tired of all the tournament data towards the end. His marriage to Tatum O'Neal was pretty interesting, too. When he starts talking about Patti Smith and marrying her, I thought, No way! I was thinking of the Patti Smith who wrote Just Kids. It's not that Patti Smith. McEnroe's mother is referred to only a few times, but when she is referenced--she really sounds like a ....an unkind, insensitive person. Maybe John got a bit of his nutso behavior on the court from her. He sounds like a very good dad, though. And honest about why his first marriage didn't work out. He was an admittedly selfish guy, but he does change over time.Recommended

As my favorite player growing up in the eighties, this book didn’t disappoint. The great matches with Borg, Lendl and Connors are discussed. Especially my favorite the ‘84 French open final and his overall year in 1984, which is one of the greatest years ever by a professional tennis player. It was also nice to read about his background growing up, family and adult personal life. A different take than the opprobrium he’s received from the press. Well worth the used book price I paid for the paperback.

I was always a fan when John played on the pro circuit. I thought his serve and volley style to be refreshing. This book relates all the aspects of his life that most people don't know. It really demonstrates the struggles John faced both on the circuit and off. I found the book enlightening and humorous. I like Johnny Mac even more now.....

I've been a big fan of Mac and he is why I picked up racket when I was 12. I was always puzzled why he would go all that stuff even when he is playing (appears) terrific. His candid confession of his uncertainty inside his brain makes all sense now. Mac is a human being after all. I think current top players are behaving (maybe too well) themselves. Probably because potential public repercussion is too huge to ignore. It's a little squeezing world.

Johnny Mac is a very interesting guy. Having grown up watching his epic matches with Borg and Connors I was eager to read this book. It did not disappoint. You will be happy to find all the details on his tennis career and all of the behind-the-scenes action that the media never covers.But even more impressive was to read about John's growth from a self-centered kid into a mature father. As one who has made the same journey, this part really touched me.The only thing missing was more dirt on his ex-wife's abuse of narcotics and their custody battle, as well as details on the abuse dished out by his ex-father law. But I guess you have to respect a guy who doesn't trash people just to sell a few more books.Well worth the (used book) price!

This book is so much fun to read. McEnroe is a unique individual. He is incredibly arrogant, neurotic, rude, self centered, and narcissic. He is also insightful, brilliant, artistic. He understands the game like few others. He also plays the game like few others. It all comes through perfectly well in this biography. Nothing in this book was surprising. It was all expectable Mac in your face stuff. And, it was so much fun.On a more serious tone, Mac has a lot of smart wisdom to impart about the game, and the game's direction. He makes a lot of recommendation that make a lot of sense, but unfortunately are utopic. The most noteworthy of them, is that tennis should go back to wood racquets. I fully agree. Mac feels that the character of the game, and the associated skill requirement completely changed after that.I don't know if anyone remembers the artistic, versatile styles of Adriano Panata, Ilie Nastase, Tom Okker, Manuel Santana. They all played with wood racquets. Their style of finesse and unpredictability is gone from the game. John McEnroe also emulated that style. Today, our only hope is Roger Federer who shows the versatility and talent of the past. Unfortunately, he rarely passes the first round in any Gran Slam tournaments, and gets worn down by some anonymous grunter.

If you were into tennis in the McEnroe era, this book is really good. Not so sure about it if you didn't know about the players Mac includes. I was and still am a fan from those days besides having been a teaching pro during that era, so I loved the book.

After reading the first book about Princess Saltana (Princess) I knew that Daughters would be fascinating. And it is! The book discusses her 2 daughters and 1 son and picks up where her last book left off. Her youngest daughter is a devout Muslim with an extremely oppressive mentality towards her society. Her second child is a wild child by Saudi standards but her mother loves her just the same. And Princess Saltana's oldest child, her son is as compassionate and liberated as his mother. She raised him well. This story takes place in Saudi Arabia where women are treated as second class citizens. The men use their religion to justify all sorts of heinous crimes which is sickening when I thick about it. These men who degrade women are cowards but they get away with anything they want. In the USA they would be called pedophiles and locked up in jail. But in Saudi Arabia they are free to do exactly as they please. This is also about a country that regards wealth and physical attributes of the most important things in life, money and sex go hand and hand. And women are treated as property to gain social and economic power. Princess Saltana is a heroine for telling her story, even though her family found out about her first book. She is also a heroine for preaching women's rights in a land that has no rights for women. She is a heroine because she sees hope in the future for the women of her country. The book isn't only about her daughters it is also about Princess Saltana's life and family. She is a deeply moving person with a lot of conviction. And I can only hope that one day all the women in her country will be treated with the basic human rights that they all deserve - but do not have. I just found out there is a third book about Princess Saltana titled Princess Saltana's Circle, I am sure it will be an interesting read too. Also I want to say that Jean Sasson is a genius and a brilliant writer!

I read "Princess" and was absolutely enthralled for about 3/4 of the book. I'm glad I read Princess Sultana's Daughters because I was curious how a person could have shared so much of their life experiences and not expect her identity to be revealed. This, the second book of the series reminded me that children who are raised in such an insular society have trouble developing strong values. I also wondered how they coped with the world in the 2000's. I completed this book, but really should have stopped after reading Princess.

It can be the USA or the highest society in Mexico City or another part of the world like Asia or the Middle East and women are found as part of a yet unacknowledged worldwide women's sisterhood all fighting for the same rights and full recognition given to men for half the work women do. Princess Sultana is no exception but even in her privileged status she speaks out for the injustice done by men to women financially and socially like the story she relates of the humble grandmother she knew and aided in the hope to stop the forced circumcision the woman's granddaughter was going to suffer. An abominable tradition not always followed but They failed.East or West women share the same inequality and discrimination camouflaged in different forms and shapes in family tradition. culture, religion or myths created by men and followed by women who are too burdened by work and responsibilities to care to analyze.In the US there's many forms of injustice despite "advances". Theres many Anita Hills serving a Clarence Thomas for survival of her job and professional position. Seldom a woman will shackle her chains loud enough to be heard. The main reason is the fear of rebellion who will make men put a women in check by making her to loose her privileges at home or in the office, or maybe both. A woman's highest handicap is her ignorance and perceived inability to fight for her rights. the acceptance of an unrecognized gender injustice imposed on her in subtle and not so subtle ways.women keep a forced silence for fear of loosing status and privilege and being set apart as "difficult" just as Anita Hill was. Too much is lost. We have one life. Princess Sultana is far away from us in Saudi Arabia and she makes us feel free and safe to evaluate and criticize a different culture and the status of Saudi women as mothers, wives and at times as secret lovers. Her obstacles are immense in a society ruled by religion and government enforced by a few. Highly readable and entertaining. Five stars not enough. It opened my eyes and gave me a better sense of the gender battle ground in every society.
