I am embarrassed to admit this, but my mother has subscribed to the NE for decades. I bought this as a stocking stuffer for her this year. Unfortunately, she will like it. I paid one cent, plus $4 S&H. No, this will not be her only gift from me. However, it will rank up there as one of her most liked gifts.

Good grief. I had almost forgotten about some of these dirty scandals.

The book is packed with tons of colored photos from the celebrity world and news stories from the last 3 decades.

My mother enjoyed all of the old headlines.

The Enquirer is infamous for its shameless portrayals of American celebrities (and the odd royalty living elsewhere). This amazing collection of photography though is something even more rewarding than the weekly grind-out of the delightful tabloid. The images are juxtaposed SO skillfully, and with great humor. A dumpy, potato-like Xaviera Hollander and beau just across the page from slender and youthful Tommy Lee and Heather Locklear - a horrible, prophetic Dorian Gray vision of the future! Plenty of foreshadowing photos of relationships doomed to failure, a gallery of mugshots and coffin shots. The famous Elvis casket photo is easily eclipsed by the very gruesome River Phoenix shot. If I had to pick one shot as a favorite, it would be the Christmas cheer of Anna Nicole Smith and her 90-year old sugar daddy, the expression on her face instantly confirming the nation's worst speculations of that relationship. The best cross-page pairing is aging-but-sexy Joan Collins in her bikini across from a braid-wearing Sean Connery in HIS futuriffic bikini from a 70s Sci-fi movie. Can anyone possibly think he's the sexiest man alive after seeing THAT??? The book also maintains that peculiar and annoying quality of the Enquirer that some soccer-mom favorite celebrities are somehow "untouchable" - Oprah and Rosie O'Donnell are visions of personal triumph and noblesse, never to be shown in an unflattering manner. Despite that minor gripe, you can't afford to miss this photo treasury of everything beautiful about the supermarket years of the Enquirer. I'm hoping they do a companion volume of the best of the Enquirer's "shock value" black & white early years.

Once you open up this book, you might as well forget trying to accomplish anything else for the next 90 minutes or so. I know it will probably sell a lot of copies for the holidays and rightfully so. We all hate to admit that we glance at the National Enquirer everytime we go to the supermarket or beauty salon, right? But here in one place are some of the most shocking and memorable photos of our lives.Unlike 30 years of People Magazine or Time Magazine, this volume has some of the bad taste that we come to expect out of the National Enquirer. I would have bought this for my Mom except for the horrific coffin photos. So this book may not be ideal for everyone.On the other hand, I especially liked the pictures of celebrities before they were famous or when they were so young (and so were we!). It goes to show how innocent all of us were not too long ago.As far as coffee table books go, this one is a good and memorable one. The beauty salons around the country should all get one! It is, after all, a real page-turner and not many books can claim that.

I love a good freak show, don't you? The publicity starved and plastic surgey obsessed celebrities strut their stuff in all their grotesque glory. It is great to find a travel book that covers all three Baltic nations. The photography is wonderful, and the text is informative. There is a nice combination of history and descriptions of places to visit, stay, and eat. We are planning a visit to this region in the spring, and we are finding this book to be a valuable resource. Even when traveling with an escorted tour group, there is usually some free time, and this is the kind of book that will help one find places to go and restaurants to enjoy during unscheduled time.

I highly recommend DK Guides because they are beautiful works of art in themselves -- the photos are fabulous! Although not as detailed with practical information as other guides such as Eyewitness, DK Guides are a must for the sightseer, art lover, and those who want a good look at the country even if they don't go there.

Came on time and was exactly as described. You can never go wrong with these tour/guide books. Great illustrations and information. I am studying it well and planning my trip. The information given is detailed and yet doesn't go on and on which I like.

I only recently discovered that Eyewitness makes travel guides. I am headed to Estonia in a week and a half and this book really lays out a plan to get the most out of my travels. The pictures are gorgeous.

Well organized and includes a generous amount of superb photos. The coverage is great for the larger cities, but this guide does a pretty good job of highlighting and describing sights in the outer lying areas as well.

I got this book before the trip to Latvia and Estonia. Jot down things to see, to eat, and to watch out for gave me confidence to enjoy my trip there much better. I recommend this book to anyone plans to be in Baltic States soon.

So glad we purchased this travel guide for the Baltics. It covered EVERYTHING! With maps, hotel and restaurant guides, it was a time saver. It also had several hidden jewels in each country that we wouldnt have found on our own. I would highly recommend this book for anyone traveling to the Baltics!

Bravo Bravo Teresa!!!! I left the Adventist church years ago and freed myself from the distortions of biblical truth. Teresa does a great job of explaining the history of this faith and lack of biblical truth. Get this book if you want to heal from the hurt and judgement ex-adventists typically feel.

This book was very well researched! I have read many books against Ellen White, but this one brought out so many new points, I find it hard to believe that those who gave this book a low rating HAVE EVEN READ IT! This book is a must for any SDA who is questioning EGW! I have given this book 5 stars even though the Kindle version could have been better edited for spelling, grammar, and quote accuracy. The paperback version was edited much better. The section on what happened to many of the Millerites was especially enlightening! This book is by far the BEST BOOK EVER for anyone questioning Adventism! I have underlined and highlighted the book extensively! I highly recommend this book to everyone. It should be read by former Adventists, Adventists who have questions, Adventists who are quite happy with their religion, people considering whether to join Adventism, EVERYONE ! ! ! ! !

I went on-line to send this book to a friend I spoke to yesterday and I started to read a little of the pro and con reviews - so decided to write one myself. What I didn't like about the "cons" was a trying to defend EGW. There should be enough red flags regarding EGW to realize that the bible needs to stand alone!! (I've read much more than this book.... there should be red flags) If nothing else books like these should make us realize that God's word needs to stand alone. I remember reading how Watchman Nee came running down stairs yelling, "I died, I died". I knew text he was referring to and knew he had experienced something at a different level - and I always wondered what hit him so profoundly. BUT, once you "see it" - you can't believe you didn't see it before! The answer lies in the statement that It's all about Jesus (also a great book written by Edith Cooper who worked for the congressional library who did her research in the same manner she did research for work). And yes, I don't think all SDA's are like what the Beems wrote about - I have some friends who have accepted me and loved me (but not many). But I have also lost friends, been deleted off FB by some, no longer included in peoples life beyond the niceties any longer, have people leave if I came over and wasn't allowed to see my nieces and nephews for over 8 years (when they became adults and asked me why I left them - sad that is what they thought). I have a friend who is not allowed to spend more than 2 hours a month seeing his grand children and then supervised! Just because YOU may not have treated some of us the way its portrayed - I'm here to tell you that you are the exception!!Loved the part about Constantine and the Catholic church. I have to admit I cried when I read what Constantine wrote - something I never learned in all my years in sda schools/churches. I was taught quite the opposite!This was the 1st of many books on the topic I've gotten my hands on and I felt the fear melt away part way through - thank you. Yes, bad things are gonna happen - but not because EGW says so. I felt the Beems presented the information humbly. There are books with more details - but this one covers a lot of topics. The gospel is in this book - found it so profound at one point I had to put the book down to wipe the tears away. But everyone's journey is different and we are all in different places on the journey. You may not see it here - but if you are a seeker I have no doubt you will come running into the room yelling in excitement, "I died, I died"!!

My wife is an ex-Adventist and she found this book to be very informative an eye opening. I read as well and I think it's a must read for anybody who's an Adventist or has a friend or family member who's an Adventist.

What a beautiful labor of love! This guide is much more up-to-date and comprehensive than anything that I've been able to find online, so I'm very glad that it came in the mail for me just in time.
