I've been doing a lot of reading about them from many different websites. This books has answered all of my questions on how to properly care for these reptiles. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in purchasing a bearded dragon.

This is a very excellent reference manual for anyone who wishes to keep and enjoy Bearded Dragon lizards. It is eminently readable, well-organized, and gives the reader a clear idea of what to do and what not to do as regards raising Dragons. These animals have become very popular as pets in many parts of the world due to their cool appearance, nice personalities, and hardiness. This book gives the reader pretty much what he or she needs to know in selecting and caring for a Bearded Dragon. Although much of this information can be found for free on the Internet, I nevertheless enjoyed reading this book and I did learn some new things about caring for dragons. Further, some of the information on the Internet is either wrong, or at least controversial. This book derives its sources from qualified veterinarians and naturalists.One of the things I really like about this book is the "FAQ" (Frequently Asked Questions) that appear throughout the text. These are generally Q & As to common problems and errors in raising Bearded Dragons. I wish I had had this book when I first got my Beardie; I made one or two of the errors that this book warns about.If you are going to buy one book about caring for Bearded Dragons, this one is the one to get. It is also a fun read.

As of 2013 this was the most recommended Bearded Dragon book on the market and is still probably one of the best books out there. I have done years of research and own to dragons. I do consider some of the contained information outdated, however it is still an excellent all-round guide. It is good to compare different books and different websites as everyone gives different advice. But if you don't have a bearded dragon book and only want one book you can't go wrong with getting this one.

This is a very good book if you need good advice on your bearded dragon. Answers all your question in a easy to understand book. I bought this book when I first got my beardie. I didn't know anything about these animals except what I had been told by the pet store. This book is a lifesaver. It is wonderful, very educational. It covers general information, how to prepare a proper habitat, how to care for your pet, as well as breeding. There is information on some common health problems and other reptiles closely related to beardies as well. This book has been a real help to me while ensuring that I provide the best for my beardie.

I got the loose leaf version (cheaper) and the hole punches are on the wrong side. The printing of the book is fine but when I went to put it in a binder, everything was backwards so it opened like a manga comic. Fortunately, there is enough space to punch the other side but it is an inconvenience.

Taking a materials science/mechanical engineering course that uses this book and I love it.Very clear writing/explanations, use of intuitive notation, problems gradually get tougher at a reasonable rate. Although my area is more in control systems, this MSE book has been really interesting. I'd take another course in it if I had time.Book definitely assumes you have the prerequisites though -- some of the math can get tricky, but's all reasonable for an undergrad. Excellent colors/visually appealing. I think MSE is a very visual subject, and since I'm not a visual person, it really helps to see what's going on with clear diagrams/pictures.My professor said this is a classic MSE book and I can see why. Two thumbs up.

I sold my newer edition and got an older edition (costs less money). This book has great detail and great at explaining things. I am a materials engineer and this is by far my most referenced book for a jumping off point. If you are unclear about something, I would start with this book and it will provide general details. After that, you can use resources that are more focused on a certain subject. I use it to refresh on basic ideas all of the time. This book provides such a strong foundation you would be crazy not to have it on your book shelf for reference if you do anything really materials oriented.

When I was finishing my MatSci undergrad degree, one of my T.A.s was taking his orals for a Ph.D. He passed handily. When asked how he prepared, he said that he studied Callister until he understood *everything*. That about says it all, suitable as an intro text for sophomores, and suitable as an advanced text for grad students.

There was at least one instance of a formula required for some homework problems being found not in the main informative parts of the chapter, but nestled within one of the example problems. Also, it gives a table of element electronegativities that seems to be pretty off for some elements. Overall, I thought it was pretty good even though there were a lot of chapters that we didn't cover. It arrived in pretty good condition with a few non-text-obstructing highlighter and pencil marks.

I got this book for my first materials class, and I find myself coming back to it again and again for other materials classes and other engineering courses in general. It is excellent at giving a good understanding on concepts and is very reader friendly. My favorite textbook I have ever used.

The copy I received has seen better days, but it was cheap to rent and had all the needed information inside so I can’t complain. Expect a lot of pencil/highlighter markings. I rate at 5 stars because it did not break the bank to rent.

Most engineering books I've come across I can't read due to not knowing the engineering terms they expect you to know beforehand.This is the only book I've actually read and understood in engineering. It explains things well and doesn't use too much professional jargon that material science beginners would have to sort through.Thankful for engineering books like this that actually help me learn and not make me feel lost!!

They give definitions for stuff but lack concrete examples to improve understanding. It isn't until you try to do their end of the chapter questions that you realize how lacking this book is. You see something like "Describe Datum A" as a questions, flip through the chapter and realize they never explained how to describe a datum. The problem isn't your understanding of the material, but rather they never give an example of how to do this and the answer could be one of many answers that you could use. I have found youtube videos and online websites that teach this material better than this book.

Purchased this book for a class. I found it to be one of the better textbooks. The book was to the point, explaining everything clearly. The chapters continue to reintroduce subjects you learn at the very beginning. Building upon each subject at a steady pace.

Good book with a great approach to GDnT. I feel there should be a blueprint to the questions and tests for self study purpose.Some more intricate examples along the way could really show how GDnT works on more complex pieces of hardware.In a class room the instructor or professor will always be there to answer ones questions. Studying alone it is more difficult to punch through a problem and get a clear understanding sometimes.

This lab book is poorly done. Avoid it and its accompanying text if you can.Some labs are worthwhile (e.g. the one on power supplies), but many of them consist of simply rewriting vocabulary definitions or redrawing schematic symbols. This is a complete waste of lab time and should be in the text, not the lab book.The labs often have mistakes in them. It's like the author didn't even bother to run through the labs himself to make sure they actually work. And surely someone has informed the publisher about these errors, but the errors are still there.

Because the course to be taught in the prison has not yet started. The question will be whether the materials needed(?) for the Lab Manual will be available and I have not yet heard. As for the text getting there in good time and as promised all of that was fulfilled! Hopefully I will later get more details....

I purchased this copy because it was supposed to be like new, and in great condition with little to no writing in it. I got it, and the entire first half was written in. I would have chosen another copy had I known that.

I paid 99 dollars for a book that was incomplete. I am completely dissatisfied with this purchase

ROB SANDELIN is a naturalist and environmental educator who has since childhood spent much of his life observing and studying nature in the mountains of the Northwest. He has served as a park naturalist at Yosemite National Park, Olympic National Park, and Denali National Park. Currently he teaches field skills to student naturalists at the Environmental Education School of the Sky Valley Education Center in Monroe, Washington. He is the author of This Week in the Woods, a series of natural history essays; the Cohousing Resource Guide; and the Intentional Communities Resource Pages website. He lives with family and friends in the Sharingwood Cohousing Community in Snohomish County.

There's no wifi in the woods. Luckily they still make these things called books. It seems there's no such thing as a perfect field guide. However, if you're looking for a broad reference to natural life in the greater Puget Sound area, this is a good pick. Like any field guide take the time to learn the format of the book so it's easier to reference when outside. Only thing is I wish there was mention of edibility and maybe some actual pictures. Little heavy for long hike but great for in the car and short nature walks. There are some better books on specific subjects but this is a good pnw overall field guide and I'm glad I picked it up.

Great book! I brought it with us for our hiking in the PNW and found it informative. I do wish it would have included which plants were edible as we passed lots of berries I later learned were edible. Other than that, I really enjoyed it. I don't think it contains enough information for studying, but as a quick reference field guide for IDing only it served it purpose well and was worth the weight on our day hikes.

I was looking for a small but comprehensive book to help me identify plants and animals in the Pacific Northwest. This book has been an excellent choice!Topics are well-organized so you can quickly find what you're looking for. Plant and animal drawings are well done, and I've never had problems identifying what I've just stumbled across on the trail. The book is durable so I can take it hiking without worry.Descriptions of everything are a bit spartan, but that's fine: it keeps the book small. There is enough information to positively identify things, and then I can do more research once I get home if I need to.

Love it, but doesn't show what's edible and what's not. That's what I got it for was to identify edible from poisonous. Doesn't say which is which. But tells you where to find each one.

Gift for my husband. He is excited to use it this summer while hiking. He said it was what he wanted and it was as described online. I would order from this company again. Thanks!

I'm already a fan of McCall Smith's books and if you are, too, and have, as is my case read all his books, you're in luck, there is more joy to be had because this book is certainly for you. The protagonist, Mr. Malik and his friends at the Asadi Club are utterly charmingly depicted. Mr Malik's nemesis isn't made so by being written as a bad, mean or treacherousness man which is such a relief; he is allowed his humanity. My only complaint would be that Ms Rose Mbikwa isn't fully imagined. It almost seems to me as if this book had been aimed at the male audience, though I can't imagine that. So, perhaps it was written for the pleasure of the author, himself. If so, I see nothing wrong with that.I was afraid that all that bird watching and describing would lose me as I'm not a bird fan in particular. But Drayson brought enough charm and variety to this past time so that it integrated as a welcome part of the book. I can't wait to read his next, Guide to the Beasts of East Africa.

The title is deceptive, as this is not at all a field guide. It's a lighthearted story about Indian immigrants living in Kenya who like to watch birds. A short book, easy to read in one sitting, my wife and I both enjoyed it and have given it as a gift to several birder friends.

An absolutely beautiful, charming, exciting, and fun tale of the different types of love and the search for them, each concept linked by the beautiful birds of Kenya. I couldn’t have enjoyed it more!

I enjoyed reading about Kenya and the birds in this book, but there is not much substance to the story. The characters are not well-developed and the story is a bit silly. I would not read another in this series.

This is a charming, pleasant entertainment with a few moral lessons some of which are a bit heavy-handed but most of which the reader absorbs without really knowing it. If you like stories set in East Africa, as I do, this will be at least an absorbing diversion. It should be noted that what you will learn only about East African birds and their habitat is rather slight. In fact the whole novel is rather slight, but sweetly so and it is so unassuming that it sems unfair to hold its lightness against it.

So much so, that I read it in two sittings. I didn't love it, but I liked it. Very sweet. And I learned about birds of Africa!

If you too like docile stories that are rich in characters, entertaining and have a happy ending, this one's for you. A beautiful little story, light and delicious not like whipped cream, because that's too light, but not like pecan pie, that's too heavy. More of a chocolate mousse: a bit of rich flavor and delightful to consume. I had just read Franzen's Freedom and this was the perfect book to follow as it doesn't take itself too seriously. Took me 2 days and it was a very happy 2 days knowing that this was waiting for me every time I had a spare moment.

Enjoyed the story,enjoyed the information about the birds.The author has a interesting way of writing.Just when you thought you had it figured out it surprised you...

Linda was born to write, I could not put this book down. We all have our stories and I have read many of our stories over the years. However this one won't allow you to put it down. This heart wrenching story is not far from my own. I was a lot younger than Linda when she left ( 16, and am now 3 weeks away from my 65th birthday ) the Jehovah's Witnesses, however I have gone through many of the same experiences she has. We all have! The shunning is one of the worse things in life that can happen to a person, it takes years to come to grips with it and then only if we learn how to move on and live with love and empathy in our hearts, can we truly live a good life, loving one another as we realize we are really all one. Linda has done just this and I believe with all my heart that she is a blessing to all of us. So many years later and I still had a hard time getting through some of the situations she found herself in, as I had been in them also, and suddenly I find that they are still there in my heart, no matter what. I loved this book, and hope that all of the people who have left the Jehovah's Witnesses will read it and also ones who are just interested in many of their ideas and beliefs. I get ask so many questions and many are answered right here in this book. I can honestly say this and one other are my favorites of all that I have read not counting Crisis of Conscious, that remains my first book and will always have a place in my heart. I wish all of you the very best and I send Linda love and a big Thank You for writing such a wonderful book! I love it. Namaste

Terrible practice by the Jehovah witnesses to practice "Shunning" which is not the Christian thing to do. Not ChristlikeMy question for the author is: Did you believe in God or were you just repeating what you are told. The authors move to a New Age practice ,equating Jesus with other earthly prophets baffled me. This underscore the point that children need to have their own relationship with Christ. Christianity is not based on church attendance and cannot be inherited

This story is fascinating and quite informative. Thank you Linda for sharing your journey with the world. I appreciated how focused and factual the writing is on events having to do with being shunned. There is so much neutrality in the telling and not a whiff of victimhood, blame, or drama. Given the details this is quite a fete! I was quite aware that this is one story of the author's life and there are probably a few others to be told. I look forward to your future books. I recommend this book to everyone who wants to be inspired.

When I started reading this one I knew it was special. I wasn't disappointed. And the way it unfolded was just right. The descriptions and word pictures throughout the book gave me the feeling that I was actually there, a silent witness so to speak (no pun intended 😀). Anyone who was raised into or has associated themselves with the JW religion particularly, will relate to it's honesty and stark reminder that the price for being shunned by loved ones and/or even close friends, may be the price one has to pay in order to be free and to become a new and genuine self. Reading this book was easy and well worth the attention it deserves and more. Highly recommended.

A sad commentary on one religion among many that punish those whose thinking doesn't agree with their orthodoxy. A powerful story of one woman's journey of self-discovery, told with honesty and compassion, a tale well told. Lovely to see how Linda overcame being shunned and blossomed as a kind and strong woman who gained depth and new worlds.Upon thinking further about Shunned, it occurred to me that what we are taught as children becomes our truth, our reality, whether about religion or our families or our world. It’s like getting on a train and being taken where the tracks go, and believing that this is the only right train. Linda grew up with parents of different religious beliefs, so in a sense had two tracks, which might have given her a little extra room for independent thought. At one point an incident happened that made her wonder if her beliefs were the only way to think, whether this train was the only train there was. Her journey became one of finding the train that held her beliefs, and she discovered that there were in fact many trains, not just one valid one, a dangerous way of thinking it would turn out. Some trains run on narrow tracks, that don’t allow for independent thought. Linda happened to be born into such a belief system, but she is far from unique in that. So it was a huge and courageous step for her to search for what was right for her, as opposed to fitting into someone else’s Truth. Shunned is the story of that journey.

I was totally engrossed in this story from page one. A beautiful, intimate sharing of the struggle to be one's own person, in the face of very difficult choices. The book enlightened me to how we judge and condemn others who don't believe in what we believe in, and the emotional cost of doing that.

Astoundingly powerful and moving account of the clash of love and dogma as told by a gifted writer who shares the intimate and heartfelt story of coming to terms with the unthinkable rejection from her natal family. This book has made me wiser about the untold suffering that comes when extreme righteousness trumps familial love. I also celebrate the resilience of spirit in reading about Linda’s journey to her truth and ultimate happiness. Kudos to Linda with my great respect for her beautiful soul.

Wow, what a beautifully written, compelling story! I was completely absorbed in Linda's articulate and thoughtful description of growing up and living as a Witness through marriage and adulthood, and then exploring her curiosity and heartfelt desire to cultivate and live a more authentic life. To challenge everything she was taught to believe in, and to let go of her family took courage, and must have been so hard. Yet I felt the wonder and joy of her personal journey and transformation. Shunned is a truly uplifting book. Definitely recommend it!
